Visitor visa or eTA
Most nationalities resident in the UAE need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to visit Canada. Some visa-exempt nationalities travelling by air need only an eTA, applied for online. Your nationality decides which; your UAE residency lets you apply from the UAE.
How you apply
The TRV application is made online through the Government of Canada's IRCC portal. If biometrics are required, you give them at a VFS Global centre in Dubai. The decision is made by Canadian immigration, not VFS.
Documents commonly required
A valid passport, your UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, proof of funds such as bank statements, an employment or NOC letter, a travel purpose and itinerary, and evidence of ties to the UAE that support your intent to return. Canada places weight on genuine temporary intent and financial capacity.
